Police Track Down Homeless Burglar Living in Tent
Despite initial attempts, cops couldn’t find Jackson after the first burglary. But on October 26, police received word of a second restaurant burglary in the same area. Quick action saw officers review CCTV footage, which again showed Jackson as the suspect.
Jackson was discovered the same day living rough in a tent on Bartholomew Square wearing the identical clothes seen on the footage. He was found with stolen items from the burglaries in his possession and was promptly arrested.
Magistrates’ Court Sends Burglar to Jail for Four Months
At Brighton Magistrates’ Court on October 27, Jackson pleaded guilty to two counts of burglary other than dwelling. He was sentenced to four months behind bars.
Police Vow to Crack Down on Business Crime
Detective Sergeant Joanne Benton said: “Sussex Police understands the impact burglary has on victims not just financially, but the emotional impact through the loss of sentimental items and sense of violation.”
“Tackling business crime is a key focus in Brighton and Hove, and we carry out a significant amount of engagement work with residents and the business community to prevent crime and bring perpetrators to justice.”
“Together with our partners in the Business Crime Reduction Partnership and Business Improvement District (BID), we have introduced a range of measures to make reporting crime easier, share intelligence, and improve the quality of evidence gathering.”
