Child’s Potty Among Wild Haul Stolen in Darlington Crime Spree – Thief Banged Up!
Thief Raids Cars, Steals Bizarre Items
Jamie Marriott went on a crime binge last November, hitting multiple cars across Darlington in just 24 hours. His odd loot included a child’s potty and wet wipes stolen from a Kia Picanto. But that wasn’t all – he also ripped out the ignition from a Kia Sportage.
Burnt-Out Stolen Car Left Abandoned
Marriott didn’t stop at petty theft. He also nicked a Renault Megane from a home on Cardinal Gardens. The car was later found abandoned and set on fire on Albert Road, adding arson to his rap sheet.
Quick Arrest After String of Fail Attempts
The 33-year-old from Westbrook tried cracking open several other vehicles but was foiled by locked doors. Police wasted no time and nabbed Marriott less than two days after the spate of crimes.
Thief Jailed for 13 Months
At Teesside Crown Court on March 17, Marriott pled guilty to driving while disqualified, driving without insurance, eight counts of vehicle interference, and three counts of theft. He was slammed with a 13-month jail sentence.
Detective Sergeant Liam Robertson, Darlington CID, said: “Marriott is a prolific offender who has brought misery to residents in Darlington, and his offending will not be tolerated. “Thanks to the combined efforts of our local response officers and detectives, Marriott was quickly identified, arrested, and charged. “I am pleased that he has been sentenced to time in prison which will give residents some respite from his offending.”
