The moving inquest into the tragic death of six-year-old Freddie Farrow has revealed heartfelt tributes from his family and Essex Police nearly four years after the heartbreaking incident at Fenwick’s department store in Colchester.
Police Recall ‘A Day Nobody Can Forget’
Chief Superintendent Stuart Weaver, who heads North Essex policing, opened up about the devastating impact of Freddie’s death.
“July 27, 2021, remains one of the most devastating days many officers in Colchester have experienced. From those who rushed to Fenwick’s within minutes, to the teams who led the investigation and prepared the report for the coroner.”
He added:
“Essex Police values family deeply. Freddie’s death is a tragedy we will never forget. In the days and months that followed, the Colchester community showed incredible love and unity. We’re proud to be part of this community.”
Family’s Heartbreaking Tribute: ‘A Hole That Can Never Be Filled’
Freddie’s mother, Natasha Ingham, described her son as a “loving, caring and fun little boy” with his whole life ahead of him.
“Losing a child is something no parent ever gets over. We think about Freddie every day and remember him as he was.”
She continued:
“His loss has left a hole that will never be filled. We’re trying to live our lives as Freddie would have wanted – full of love, kindness, and joy. He will never leave us.”
Gratitude for Emergency Heroes
Natasha also praised Essex Police for their swift response and thorough investigation.
“I want to publicly thank Colchester PCSO Lee Compton, who was first on the scene and did everything he could to save Freddie. We are so grateful — his efforts may have given us the six precious days by Freddie’s bedside to say goodbye.”

Freddie’s passing sparked a wave of grief and solidarity across the Colchester community. Vigils and tributes continue to celebrate his memory.
The inquest has now closed, offering some closure to Freddie’s family. Yet, his memory remains forever cherished, a lasting reminder of a little boy deeply loved.
