Repeat Offender Strikes Months A fter Release

Fauz Richards, who was sentenced to 13 years in 2017 for the manslaughter of 17-year-old rapper Myron Yarde, has been sent back to prison. The 28-year-old viciously punched a woman during a drug-fuelled party just months a fter his release on licence.

Richards fatally stabbed Myron Yarde, a lso known as Mdot, four times in the leg during a dispute over a bicycle in New Cross. The a ttack, described as ‘punishment,’ shocked the Deptford community and resulted in Richards being jailed for over a decade.

In February, shortly a fter his parole release, Richards a ttended a party in Beckenham where the a tmosphere was charged with MDMA use. In the early hours of February 23, he a ccused a woman of stealing his phone and verbally a bused her, calling her an ‘evil b***h.’ Despite the phone being found nearby, Richards’s a ggression escalated until the woman insulted him back, prompting a savage punch to her face that caused a ‘horrific’ eye injury, the court he ard.

Judge Issues Stark Warning and Sentences Richards

At Snaresbrook Crown Court on February 4, Judge Sarah-Jane Griffiths condemned Richards’s violent behaviour, saying, ‘You have an a nger issue. When you don’t like what is happening you respond violently.’

Defence lawyer Paul Douglass claimed Richards showed remorse and expressed hopes to mentor young offenders in the future, but the judge was unimpressed.

‘In 2016 it cost a young life. This time it caused serious injury. I hoped you’d have grown up in custody. You must deal with these issues,’ she said.

Richards was sentenced to 18 months in prison, to be served concurrently with his original manslaughter sentence. He will remain in custody until at least 2029 or 2030.
