Police Hunt Second Suspect in Horrific Manchester Child Rape Case

Greater Manchester Police have issued a fresh appeal after the brutal rape of a 14-year-old girl in Manchester city centre last July. Detectives investigating the shocking attack have released an image of a second man they want to speak to.

Attack on Canal Tow Path Sparks Major Investigation

The assault happened shortly after 6.50pm on Saturday 11 July 2020, near Dale Street along the canal tow path. The teenager and her friends were approached by a group of men around 5.15pm before the girl was raped by one of them.

Specialist officers and partner agencies continue to support the victim and a second teenage girl also reportedly attacked in the area around the same time.

One Suspect Arrested and Released, Police Seek Another

  • Following a media appeal in August, a 20-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of rape but later released with no further action after extensive questioning and forensic examination.
  • An 18-year-old man was arrested and bailed in connection with the second attack on another teenage girl.
  • Now police have released a photo of a crucial second man they want to identify urgently.

Detective Constable Katy Shadwell of GMP’s City of Manchester Central CID said: “This was an abhorrent and disgusting attack on a young teenage girl who was left understandably traumatised. We are determined to bring whoever is responsible to justice.”

“Thanks to the public’s help, we arrested a man who has since been eliminated from our enquiries. We believe the man in the latest image may have vital information or be directly involved.”

“If you recognise this man or are the man in the photo, please contact us urgently.”

Police Plea: Help Identify Key Suspect

Anyone with information about the attack or the identity of the man pictured should call police on 0161 856 4409, quoting incident number 2439 of 11/07/2020.
