Car Thieves Target Bassetlaw Homes in Early Morning Raids
Two brazen break-ins in Bassetlaw saw thieves swipe cars after stealing keys from inside homes. Both incidents happened in the early hours and have led to a spate of arrests.
Christmas Day Theft in Bircotes
At around 1.50am on Christmas Day, burglars broke into a house on Wright Drive, Bircotes. They grabbed car keys from inside and used them to drive off a vehicle parked outside. After a full police probe, a 39-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of burglary on 3 January.
Second Burglary in Scrooby – Car Recovered
Just days earlier, on 30 December at 4.15am, intruders forced their way into a Great North Road property in Scrooby. They stole car keys and made off with a vehicle. Thankfully, the car was later found along with the victim’s purse left inside.
A 41-year-old man was arrested the following day on suspicion of burglary. During custody, he was also charged with possession of a Class A drug.
More Arrests and Police Appeal
- Two more men, aged 52 and 42, were nabbed on 1 January on suspicion of burglary.
- Both have since been released on conditional bail.
“Having your property broken into and belongings stolen is distressing,” said Detective Inspector Paul Lefford of Nottinghamshire Police. “We’re committed to making these crimes rare. Four arrests have been made so far and inquiries continue.”
