Three Decades On: Who Killed DC Jim Morrison?

DC Jim Morrison was off duty when he was fatally stabbed in Covent Garden on 13 December 1991. The 26-year-old cop was trying to arrest a man suspected of stealing a handbag. A struggle erupted outside the London Transport Museum before the attacker fled, leaving Jim dead.

Dedicated Officer Taken Too Soon

Known for his fearless work tackling street crime, Jim left behind a grieving widow, Victoria. Despite numerous arrests and leads across Europe and Canada, the killer has never been caught.

Met Commissioner Cressida Dick said: “Jim Morrison was a talented and dedicated officer who lived and worked in Westminster. He had an insatiable appetite for police work and always went the extra mile to help his community. We still believe vital information is out there. Justice for Jim remains our priority.”

A Prime Suspect and Vital Clues

  • The attacker was described as a North African man, around 5ft 10, aged 27-30, clean-shaven with tight curls at the front of his dark collar-length hair.
  • He wore a tan or brown leather jacket.
  • Jim chased him through the streets after a recent spree of bag snatchings near the Maple Leaf and Nell Gwynne pubs.

Investigation Pleads for New Leads

Detective Chief Inspector Rebecca Reeves said: “Jim died protecting the public while off duty, unarmed, and alone. People tried to help him but the offender escaped. We’ve chased leads across Europe and beyond but need fresh information—especially from those who lived or worked in London’s West End in 1991. Someone out there knows more and it’s never too late to come forward.”

Police urge anyone with information to call 020 8785 8267 or report anonymously via this link or Crimestoppers at 0800 555 111.

This cold case remains open. Justice for DC Jim Morrison is still the police’s mission.
