“Dirty Look” Dispute Ends in Stabbing – Brixton Teen Left Fighting for Life
A 19-year-old man has been locked up for four years after plunging a knife into a schoolboy following a shocking street clash in Brixton.
Row Over “Dirty Look” Sparks Violent Attack
Roland Gegbe, of Amesbury Avenue, SW2, admitted to stabbing a 16-year-old boy in a bitter dispute sparked by a mere “dirty look”. The victim was walking home from school on the afternoon of Friday, 8 June 2018, when Gegbe and another unknown male confronted him. The trio’s heated argument quickly turned physical.
The victim tried to walk away but was soon attacked again. During the violent scuffle, Gegbe pulled out a knife. The teenager bravely defended himself with a piece of scaffolding but ended up stabbed three times by Gegbe, who then fled the scene.
Knife Attack Causes Life-Threatening Injuries
Passers-by rushed to the boy’s aid and performed crucial first aid. Emergency services, including London’s Air Ambulance, arrived swiftly, rushing the teen to hospital.
The three stab wounds pierced his lung and liver, leaving serious internal damage. The police arrived within four minutes of the attack.
Swift Justice as Police Crack Down on Street Violence
Police arrested Gegbe at his home, where two knives were seized—one stained with the victim’s blood. Officers also found an air pistol inside a backpack linked to Gegbe at the attack location.
“This was a vicious and senseless attack after a disagreement,” said Detective Sergeant Rhodri Gardner of Lambeth CID. “Gegbe’s callous actions may have ruined not just the victim’s health but also his future.”
“The boy was set to start a professional football scholarship in 2018 but his injuries forced him out. Though he has medically recovered, they may prevent him from ever playing at a professional level.”
“Thanks go to the public who stepped in with first aid and help police with enquiries. We all have to work together to end violence on our streets.”
“Many fights among youths start small but escalate fast. Saving face isn’t worth a life or prison. I urge young people and parents to find better ways to resolve conflict.”
Gegbe was sentenced at Inner London Crown Court on Monday, 20 May after pleading guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent and possession of a blade in public.
