Burglar Busted! DNA Snags North Kent and Surrey Thief

Lorenc Stefanaj, 31, has been slammed with a 18-month prison sentence after his DNA tied him to a string of daring break-ins across north Kent and Surrey. The Luton man was caught red-handed thanks to forensic clues left at the scenes, including DNA on smashed glass and blood drops.

Three Burglaries, One Guilty Plea

  • Stefanaj’s crime spree kicked off on 29 December 2023 at a Meopham home on Wrotham Road. He smashed a window and nicked sentimental jewellery, leaving behind DNA on broken glass.
  • Next, between 3 and 10 January 2024, he broke into a Longfield property on Larks Field by forcing a window. Although he fled empty-handed, blood found at the scene matched his DNA.
  • His final strike was between 2 and 4 February 2024 in Banstead, Surrey, where he ransacked a home and stole more jewellery. DNA evidence linked him once again.

Captured After CCTV and High-Speed Chase

Police used CCTV footage from one of the burglaries to identify Stefanaj. On 22 April 2024, he was arrested in London after ditching a rucksack containing screwdrivers while trying to escape a police patrol.

He was charged with three counts of burglary and locked up pending sentencing at Maidstone Crown Court on 16 October.

Detective Slams Callous Burglar

“Stefanaj targeted homes when nobody was there, ruthlessly stealing jewellery with deep sentimental value. The victims have been left devastated,” said Detective Constable Dan Bister. “He cared only about quick cash from selling irreplaceable items. This callous criminal deserves every day behind bars.”

Thanks to relentless forensic work, Stefanaj’s DNA proved the nail in the coffin – making sure he faces justice for his crime spree across Kent and Surrey.
