A violent drug dealer was caught red-handed in Maidstone town centre less than five minutes after police were called — thanks to quick-thinking officers and brave members of the public.
Quick Response After Knife-Wielding Chase
On 27 December 2025 at 8.43pm, Kent Police received urgent reports of a man carrying a knife chasing someone along Maidstone High Street.
Officers arrived swiftly, but the suspect, Mario Pascoal, had already fled. CCTV footage was immediately reviewed, revealing the direction he took.
Public Help Leads to Rapid Arrest
Thanks to a courageous member of the public who chased Pascoal and flagged down police, officers were directed to the Broadway underpass. A tense foot chase followed, ending with officers deploying a taser at the suspect.
Pascoal was seen throwing a weapon and a duffel bag into the river before being arrested just four minutes after the initial 999 call.
Stash of Drugs and Evidence Recovered
Using a broom, officers retrieved the bag containing class A and class B drugs, two mobile phones, cash, and a leather holder for a weapon.
Messages on the phones confirmed Pascoal’s involvement in drug supply.
Drug Dealer Sentenced to Nearly Three Years
Mario Pascoal, 35, from Cranbrook Road, Thornton Heath, 1, pleaded guilty to multiple charges, including supplying class A drugs, affray, possession of an offensive weapon, and intent to supply class B drugs.
On 26 March 2026, Maidstone Crown Court handed him a sentence of two years and nine months.
PC Kane Tyler said: “This offender was tracked down and arrested less than five minutes after the initial 999 report, thanks to determined officers and invaluable public help. While we advise against putting yourself in danger, the bravery shown by those who intervened was remarkable. The man who chased Pascoal and alerted police showed enormous courage and was crucial to the swift arrest. We also thank witnesses who provided key footage that confirmed Pascoal’s violent behaviour.”
