Epsom Drug Dealer Caught and Jailed for Over 5 Years

A 19-year-old Epsom drug dealer has been locked up for more than five years after a daring police operation ended his run from the law. Thomas Barry’s fast and furious ride through the streets finally came to a halt thanks to a team effort between neighbourhood and response officers.

High-Speed Police Chase Ends in Arrest

On April 4, Barry sped through Epsom in a black Vauxhall Astra, hitting speeds over 80mph. Despite the high danger, officers wisely called off the chase for public safety.

The next day, officers spotted Barry acting suspiciously near shops in Greens Lane. He bolted but was caught nearby thanks to quick teamwork by Surrey Police’s Op Viking unit and local Safer Neighbourhood and response teams.

Drugs, Weapons and Gear Found at Barry’s Home

Once arrested, officers searched Barry’s home and uncovered a haul that revealed the dangerous life he led.

  • Wraps of Class A and B drugs
  • Drug paraphernalia and scales
  • Two large knives and a stab vest
  • Multiple mobile phones

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Preston warned, “Barry showed no regard for public safety speeding through the area. The weapons and stab vest we found show just how far drug dealers will go to protect themselves. If you’re involved, ask yourself—is it worth risking your life?”

Guilty Plea Leads to Long Sentence

Barry, from Waterfelds, Leatherhead, faced Guildford Crown Court on May 18, pleading guilty to possession with intent to supply Class A and B drugs, dangerous driving, driving without insurance, and without a licence.

He was sentenced to 5 years and 3 months behind bars and slapped with a 5-year driving ban.

The case highlights Surrey Police’s ongoing crackdown on drug crime. Their Op Viking team continues to tackle cross-border dealing and keep communities safer.
