Tragic Burger Brawl Ends in Fatal Stabbing Outside Hackney Nightclub
Birthday Bash Turns Deadly
A night out celebrating a birthday turned into a nightmare outside the Colour Factory nightclub in Hackney Wick last February. Trei Daley, 26, was fatally stabbed during a fight sparked by an unlikely weapon — a thrown burger.
Knife Fight Erupts After Fast Food Feud
The drama flared just after 4am near Wicked Fish fast-food joint as partygoers spilled onto the street. Christopher Appiah-Blay, 35, and Mawien Mawien, 39, are accused murderers on trial over Trei’s death.
The argument escalated after Appiah-Blay clashed with a “rude and rowdy” woman inside Wicked Fish. Following a drink thrown and a few curse words, Appiah-Blay hurled a burger, drenching the woman in sauce.
Trei stepped in to calm things down, but peace was short-lived. His brother Rico tangled with Mawien, who threatened reinforcements. Trei threw the first punch — and the situation spiralled out of control.
Blades Drawn, Lives Ruined
What started as a squabble exploded when Appiah-Blay pulled a knife. Mawien stabbed Trei’s friend Sheldon Bastien in the back, giving him minor injuries. Meanwhile, Appiah-Blay plunged a knife twice into Trei’s chest, one blade piercing his heart.
Despite rushed hospital treatment, Trei was pronounced dead within the hour. The two defendants face murder charges alongside wounding Bastien during the brutal clash.
Prosecutor Condemns Knife Culture
“Nightclub scuffles happen, but this level of violence is rare,” said Prosecutor Julian Evans KC. “The tragedy unfolded because these men came armed with knives.”
Trei, his brother Rico, and friend Malachi Robinson had kicked off the night at a Kingsbury bar before heading to the club in the early hours. They never expected a midnight burger flight to end in murder.
