East London Terrorist Snared After Breaking Strict Release Rules
Shah Rahman Busted for Breaking Terrorism Release Laws
Shah Rahman, 39, from east London, was hauled back to prison on March 22, 2022, after counter-terrorism officers caught him flouting strict conditions imposed following his release. Rahman had breached key rules designed to monitor his activities post-prison.
Further Investigation Uncovers More Violations
While Rahman was in custody, the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command dug deeper into his actions. Their probe uncovered two additional violations of his release restrictions, piling more trouble onto his case.
Eight Months Added for Multiple Breaches
On Friday, June 10, Rahman was sentenced to eight months behind bars after admitting to breaking three parts of the Part 4 Notification Order requirements under the Counter-Terrorism Act 2008.
“Rahman, like all offenders convicted of terrorism offences, are subject to strict conditions when they are released from prison,” said Detective Chief Superintendent Dominic Murphy of the Met’s Counter Terrorism Command.
“These conditions are intended to reduce the likelihood of reoffending, and we work hard with our partners to manage these offenders in order to keep the public safe. When violations are discovered, we do not hesitate to investigate and bring them before the courts.”
A History of Terror Offences
Rahman was originally convicted in 2012 for conspiracy to cause explosions and preparing terrorist acts, following a probe by the West Midland Counter Terrorism Unit (WMCTU). He also possessed items deemed useful for terrorism.
As part of his sentence, he was slapped with a 30-year Part 4 Notification Order, forcing him to regularly inform police about changes to his life—whether financial accounts, email usage, or vehicles.
