Four Found Guilty of Murder in Brutal London Road Attack
On 16 April, police rushed to an internet café on London Road after reports that an 18-year-old man had been seriously assaulted. Paramedics took Michael Toohey to hospital, but tragically, he was pronounced dead. A post-mortem revealed he died from multiple injuries.
Nine Charged, Four Convicted
Detectives charged nine people with murder. The jury trial began on 14 November at Liverpool Crown Court. All defendants initially pleaded not guilty.
On 6 January, Kieran Williams (28), Anthony Williams (32), Michael Williams (25), and Steven McInerney (34) were found guilty of Michael’s murder. Three others were cleared of the charge. A 14-year-old boy, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was also found guilty yesterday, while another defendant was acquitted.
Sentencing Date Yet to Be Set
The sentencing date for the three Williams brothers, McInerney, and the teenage defendant is still pending.

“This was a truly shocking and brutal assault which led to the tragic and senseless death of young Michael Toohey, who was about to become a father.
The savage attack happened shortly after Michael arrived at the internet café to meet friends. He was tracked down and fatally attacked.
“No one can truly grasp the impact of his sudden death on his family and friends.
“Nothing can bring Michael back, but I hope these convictions bring his family a sense of justice.”
