Four Men Guilty Over Bow Shooting Murder of Brenton Roper
A jury has found four men guilty in the brutal daylight murder of 41-year-old Brenton Roper in Bow last year. The men were convicted of murder and manslaughter after a deadly shooting and stabbing spree on a residential street.
The Guilty Men
- Mohammed Shaid, 27 (Arrow Road, E3) – guilty of murder
- Monzur Ahmed, 27 (Whitethorn Street, E3) – guilty of manslaughter
- Foyzur Rahman, 28 (Beveridge Mews, E1) – guilty of manslaughter
- Shah Mohammed Habibur Rahman, 28 (Longbridge Road, Dagenham) – guilty of manslaughter
The sentencing is set for Monday, 23 July.
Barefaced Attack in Broad Daylight
Detective Inspector Dan Setter of the Homicide and Major Crime Command described the attack as “brazen”. He said the victim was shot in the back, stabbed multiple times and chased down the street.
“This was a brazen attack… The defendants tried to claim self-defence and accidental shooting, but the jury saw through it.” – DI Dan Setter
Mr Roper’s killing was linked to a dispute over drug dealing in the very street where he lived, which he reportedly despised.
Fleeing Justice
After the savage attack, the suspects made several attempts to dodge the law, including fleeing the country. Police tracked them down using CCTV and relentless detective work.
Shaid and Shah Rahman were caught on camera near the scene and later seen running away. The two fled abroad the day after the murder but were eventually arrested months later.
Shaid admitted handing over false defence statements that led to the collapse of the first trial, trying to block justice even further.
Justice Thanks Brave Witnesses
Detective Inspector Setter praised the courage of witnesses who stood up against local drug dealers. “It takes courage to give evidence,” he said. “We couldn’t do this without them.”
