London’s Finest Honoured in New Year’s Honours List
London’s top cops and community heroes have scooped prestigious awards in the New Year’s Honours, recognised for their outstanding service tackling terror, crime, and protecting the capital. From Counter Terrorism specialists to community volunteers, these brave individuals are setting the bar high for policing excellence.
Counter Terror Heroes Snag Top Awards
- Detective Inspector Jonathan Mearns OBE – Key player in international Counter Terrorism policing, renowned for liaising worldwide and leading human rights-compliant training. “To receive an OBE is an incredible recognition,” he said.
- Detective Sergeant Paul Griffiths KPM – A UK expert in witness interviewing, supporting terror victims at home and overseas. Currently tackling war crimes, he’s praised for compassion and professionalism.
Masters of Crime and Community Protection
- Phillip Collins MBE, retired detective inspector and anti-corruption ace, helped keep Met officers honest and trained undercover operatives for covert missions. “Delighted to receive an MBE for such a rewarding career,” said Collins.
- Suzanne Grimmer MBE, cybercrime specialist, designed scam-busting projects adopted nationwide, protecting thousands from fraud during lockdown.
- DS Nikki Owen KPM, veteran Senior Detective, cracked complex gang and sexual assault cases while leading crucial Covid-19 response teams.
- DI Helene Miller KPM – Specialist in combating Modern Slavery; launched victim support programmes boosting prosecutions dramatically.
- Simon Moring MBE, mental health champion within the Met who founded vital support networks breaking stigma for officers.
Honouring the Unsung: Volunteers and Royal Protectors
- PC Richard Fox BEM – Police constable and choir leader, uses music to raise charity funds and showcase a softer side of the Met.
- Nicola Baboneau BEM, Hackney community volunteer bringing faith and youth groups together to build trust and harmony.
- Barbara Gray LVO, Assistant Commissioner, led royal protection efforts at the Platinum Jubilee. “An amazing privilege,” she said.
- Commander Adesola Adelekan MVO – Specialist Operations veteran honoured for Jubilee role.
- Retired officers Simon Hammett and Fiona Wilson also received Royal Victorian Order awards for their service to Royalty Protection.
