Crime Squad Cracks Down on Burglars and Robbers Across Kent
The Chief Constable’s Crime Squad is on a roll, targeting burglars and robbers preying on vulnerable victims. In the past month alone, uniformed officers and detectives have taken down a string of organised criminals, making the streets safer for everyone.
Burglar Caught After Brutal Home Invasions
Kyle Thatcher landed behind bars in May after a terrifying spree in Dover. Between April 7 and April 20, 2022, he broke into three homes. During one break-in, he violently pushed an elderly woman to the ground, causing head injuries.
His downfall? Stolen loot found in nearby woods—a duvet traced back to him via blood evidence. Mobile phone data placed him near all three burgled homes.
Thatcher was sentenced to 32 months at Canterbury Crown Court on May 30, 2022.
CCTV Snags Sheppey Burglar, More Arrests Follow
Alfie Chambers from Sittingbourne also got caught after CCTV footage showed him targeting a Sheppey home in September 2021. He received a two-year, five-month prison sentence at Maidstone Crown Court on May 12, 2022.
Detective Inspector Danielle Driscoll hailed the arrests as a win for safety. “We’ve removed dangerous individuals from the streets and made our communities safer,” she said. “We’ll keep pursuing anyone daring to commit these crimes.”
Two More Burglars Nabbed for Multiple Break-Ins
On May 26, Benjamin Legg and Jack Piccolo were arrested for a string of burglaries across Kent and Essex. Piccolo from Barking faces seven charges, while Legg from Basildon is charged with ten. Both also face bank card theft accusations. Their court dates are pending.
In total, the squad executed three search warrants and made 15 arrests during May.
Top Tips to Stop Crime This Summer
Despite the crackdown, Police urge residents to take precautions, especially with summer holidays coming up.
“If you’re leaving your home unoccupied, lock all doors and windows, and secure garden tools,” warned DI Driscoll. “Timer switches for lights or radios and private security cameras can fool thieves into thinking someone’s home.”
Simple measures often thwart opportunists looking for an easy score.
Burglary remains relatively rare, but if you are targeted, rest assured the Crime Squad will pursue every lead to bring offenders to justice.
