International Career Criminal Jailed for Life Over Brutal Double Murder

An international career criminal has finally been locked up for life after stabbing two men to death in a savage attack over a decade ago. Gonzalo Andreas Gomez Remolina, 40, was found guilty at the Old Bailey for the 2007 murders of Carlos Andres Ayala Carmona and Ruben Rodriguez Fuente in Clapham. He faces a minimum of 33 years behind bars.

Brutal Revenge Attack Ends in Double Murder

Gomez Remolina and his brother launched a vicious assault on the two victims in June 2007. Carlos was stabbed over 30 times and bled to death inside the block of flats where he lived. Ruben, an innocent bystander, was stabbed eight times as he tried to escape the killers, brutally dying in hospital hours later.

“This was an incredibly violent attack by a Colombian man described in court as an international career criminal,” said Detective Sergeant Esther Richardson. “The brothers went out that night with one intention – to take revenge and kill Carlos.”

The motive was a bitter dispute over stolen goods from burglaries the victims and killers had carried out together. Gomez Remolina’s brother, Cristian, took his own life in prison while awaiting trial. Gomez fled to Mexico but was traced, arrested, and extradited to the UK in 2018.

Chilling Details of the Murder and Escape

  • The Gomez Remolina brothers had just arrived in the UK using false Mexican passports.
  • They lured Carlos and Ruben into a trap at Carlos’ home in Clapham.
  • CCTV showed them scouting burglary targets days before the murders.
  • Witnesses heard screams and saw the killers fleeing, one wearing a wig.
  • DNA linked Cristian to the scene, but Gonzalo was identified through surrounding evidence.
  • Within hours, the brothers fled to France and Spain, before Cristian was arrested.

Justice After 11 Years

Gonzalo was discovered imprisoned in Mexico for robbery in 2011, then extradited back to Britain to face justice for the murders. The families of both victims spoke out at the sentencing.

“The last 11 years have been desperately sad for us all,” said Carlos’ family. “We are grateful that justice has now been served and hope to move forward with treasured memories of Carlos.”

Ruben’s family added: “The brutal death of Ruben, our precious son and brother, has been insufferable. We welcome the court result but our sadness goes on, without Ruben.”

The killer will serve a minimum 33 years in prison for the savage murders, bringing some closure to two grieving families who waited over a decade for justice.
