Life Behind Bars for Huyton Murderer
A 21-year-old man has been handed a life sentence with a minimum of 17 years for stabbing 25-year-old Joseph Holland to death in Huyton earlier this year.
Tragic Stabbing Shocks Local Community
James Preston, from Huyton, was convicted of Joseph’s murder at Liverpool Crown Court on Thursday, 21 December. The victim was found dead from stab wounds inside a house on Huyton House Road on 8 June 2023.
A post-mortem confirmed Joseph died from fatal chest stab wounds. Preston was quickly arrested and charged following a police investigation.
Family Speaks Out After Verdict
“The loss of our son Joe has had a devastating impact on us, our family, and friends,” said Joseph’s father, Dave Holland.
“No sentence or punishment for his cowardly killer James Preston could ever be long or tough enough. Enduring the trial, hearing Preston’s lies and the horrific details of Joe’s injuries has been unbearable. We now live our own life sentence because of Preston’s actions.”
“Every day Preston is behind bars, our community is safer. We hope he remembers why he’s locked up each morning. He is an evil, dangerous, jealous monster with no remorse. We want to rebuild our lives and cherish the memories and smiles Joe brought us. He was deeply loved by all who knew him.”
“We thank the police and prosecution for bringing this to justice.”
Police Praise Courage of Joseph’s Family
Detective Chief Inspector John Fitzgerald paid tribute to the victim and his family, saying, “Joseph was just 25 with his whole life ahead of him. Preston’s violent actions robbed us of that future.”
“The jury saw through Preston’s lies; this was never self-defence. He rightly now faces a lengthy spell behind bars.”
“Joseph’s family have shown dignity throughout this painful process. No sentence can undo the tragedy, but I hope justice being served offers them some comfort to begin grieving properly.”
