Drugs Mule Swallows 99 Cocaine Packs Worth £100k, Jailed for Four Years
Cocaine Stash Found Inside Drug Courier at Heathrow
Jean Da Silva Oliveira, 22, attempted a daring drug smuggling stunt by swallowing 99 packages of cocaine before flying from Sao Paulo, Brazil, to the UK. The haul weighed over 1 kilogram with a purity level of 82%, holding a street value of around £100,000.
Border Force Sniffs Out Smuggler’s Story
Oliveira touched down at Heathrow Airport on 5 September but aroused suspicion with inconsistencies in his story. Border Force officers detained him for questioning and he was promptly x-rayed. His claim of a “dream” month-long visit crumbled when authorities discovered the cocaine capsules inside his body.
Caught and Sentenced
After passing all 99 drug packets under custody, Oliveira pleaded guilty on 10 September at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court to trafficking class A drugs. He was sentenced at Isleworth Crown Court the following week to four years behind bars.
“Illegal drugs are the cause of much violent crime, exploitation and a lot of misery,” said Ian Truby, NCA operations manager. “Through our work with partners at home and abroad we are combating the threat drugs trafficking poses to the UK.”
