Predator Sentenced: A 35-year-old man from Bridgend has been jailed for grooming a 12-year-old girl. Matthew Cheshire, from the Sarn area, pleaded guilty at Cardiff Crown Court and was slammed with four years and three months behind bars. On top of that, he’s hit with a 10-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order.
Undercover Sting Exposes Cheshire
Detective Constable Laura Davies of South Wales Police’s Online Investigation Team (POLIT) called Cheshire’s actions “predatory and manipulative.” Cheshire thought he was chatting with a 12-year-old girl but was actually caught by an undercover officer. The probe revealed Cheshire also targeted another child, who was swiftly protected from harm.
Strong Evidence Seals His Fate
The airtight evidence left Cheshire no chance. DC Gott, involved in the case, noted the classic grooming tactics. “Introducing sexual elements into conversations is a signature move of sex offenders,” he said.
Regional Task Force Cracks Down on Online Predators
The investigation was powered by Tarian, the Regional Organised Crime Unit, showing a firm commitment to protecting kids online. Their proactive approach sends a clear warning to digital predators across Wales.
