Brutal attack outside Fareham station lands man behind bars for four years

Vicious assault on homeless man

Jamie Bell, 42, with no fixed address, has been jailed for four years after brutally attacking a homeless man outside Fareham Train Station on 23 April 2019. The victim, in his 50s, was punched and kicked so severely he was knocked unconscious.

Landed with grievous bodily harm charge

Police were called to the scene at 9.25pm, where Bell was arrested on a train platform. He faced charges of attempting to cause grievous bodily harm with intent. Bell denied the charge, but a Winchester Crown Court jury wasn’t convinced.

Judge hears chilling details

Bell continued to kick the victim up to a dozen times in the head while he lay unconscious. Detective Constable Sophie Palmer described the attack as “nasty” and on a “vulnerable person” that “could have resulted in a much graver outcome.”

“The judge told the court that it was clear Bell’s intention was to cause really serious harm, and it was remarkable that the victim did not receive more serious injuries.”

“Violence of this kind will simply not be tolerated, and I am pleased that Bell has been brought to justice for his actions.”

Bell’s four-year sentence sends a clear message that such brutal assaults will be met with severe consequences.
