Man Jailed for Life After Stabbing Security Guard During Eviction
A 46-year-old man has been sentenced to life imprisonment for fatally stabbing a security guard sent to evict him over unpaid rent in Birmingham.
Chad Henderson Gets Minimum 19 Years for Murder
Chad Henderson was handed a life sentence with a minimum term of 19 years at Birmingham Crown Court today (Nov 6). He was found guilty of murdering 27-year-old Nathan Burton following a trial that ended in September.
Despite firing his legal team, Henderson refused to attend the sentencing hearing or take part in proceedings.
Fatal Stabbing at Mosely Flat
The stabbing happened just before 11pm on April 7, 2021, at Henderson’s flat on Woodhurst Road, Moseley. Henderson plunged a knife into Mr Burton’s chest four times.
Mr Burton, a father from Wolverhampton, was dragged down the stairs by colleagues but collapsed outside. He died later that night at Queen Elizabeth Hospital, Birmingham.
Rent Arrears Spark Deadly Confrontation
- Henderson, an American who arrived in the UK in July 2020, had racked up thousands in rent arrears across multiple properties.
- After refusing to pay, his landlady enlisted a security firm to evict him.
- On the first eviction attempt, Mr Burton spotted Henderson holding a bottle and lighter, raising fears of a petrol bomb. Police intervened and told the security team they needed court permission to evict.
- Later that evening, security returned and found Henderson barricaded inside with a sofa at the top of the stairs.
- Henderson attacked Mr Burton with a knife, yelling: “Why are you here? Why are you doing that? You know you shouldn’t be here.”
Henderson called the police after the attack, claiming self-defence. He told officers he was preparing to prevent a “home invasion.” He was arrested at the scene and later convicted of murder.
