Man Seriously Injured After Being Hit on Pelican Crossing in Southampton
A 29-year-old man was rushed to Southampton General Hospital after being knocked down on a pelican crossing on Inner Avenue this afternoon.
Chaos on Southampton Roads as Man Struck by Car
The shocking crash happened just after 4:15pm on Friday. The man was hit by a black BMW 535 M Sport, which struck him on the front wing before he bounced off the windscreen.
Police quickly closed the northbound carriageway near the city’s Crown and Magistrates Court, causing traffic to grind to a halt across surrounding streets.
Serious Head Injuries and Police Investigation
Paramedics from South Central Ambulance treated the man on the scene before rushing him to hospital with a serious head injury. His condition is described as life-threatening.
Collision investigators spent the evening gathering evidence at the scene. The road remained shut for over three hours but has now reopened, with traffic gridlocks slowly easing.
Police Urge Witnesses to Come Forward
Officers want to speak to the driver and anyone who may have seen the crash or caught it on dashcam.
