Man Jailed for Downloading Terrorist Bomb-Making Guides

A North London man has been locked up for two years and four months after police found he downloaded terrorist manuals on bomb-making and murder. Mohammed Ghani, 28, was arrested at his home on 12 January 2019 following disturbing calls he made to 999 and a terror hotline, threatening to kill police officers and others.

Ghani Caught with Digital Bomb-Making Guides

At the time of his arrest, Ghani was already part of the Channel intervention programme due to his extremist views. Commander Clarke Jarrett, head of the Met Police Counter Terrorism Command, revealed:

“When my officers went to Ghani’s address, they questioned him about devices he had in his bedroom and he confessed they contained electronic copies of terrorist magazines.”

Officers seized Ghani’s laptop and USB sticks, which forensic experts later found packed with horrific terrorist publications. These included detailed instructions on bomb-making, carrying out attacks, and assassination techniques. One magazine even commemorated the 9/11 terror attacks.

Terror Material Not ‘Entertaining’ Says Police

When questioned, Ghani shockingly described the content as “entertaining and informative”. However, the police strongly disagreed. Ghani pleaded guilty to eight counts of possessing documents containing terrorist information under the Terrorism Act 2000.

Commander Jarrett slammed the downloaded material as:

“toxic, hate-filled and in the wrong hands would provide a person with sufficient knowledge to carry out an attack.”

He added:

“We take the downloading of this material incredibly seriously and have a team of digital experts working to identify those viewing and sharing this kind of material so that we can bring them to face justice just as we have done with Ghani.”
