Manchester Man Jailed for Nine Years Over Massive Ecstasy Haul
Jian Huang, 44, has been slammed with a nine-year prison sentence after pleading guilty to possessing Class A drugs with intent to supply. The sentencing was handed down at Manchester’s Minshull Street Court on Monday, 23 January 2024.
38,500 Ecstasy Tablets Seized from Makeshift Drug Lab
Police seized a staggering 38,500 ecstasy pills from a property converted into a covert drug factory. Officers discovered tablets in every stage of production – suspended in liquid, drying, and thousands already pressed and ready for distribution.
Police Raid Triggered by Welfare Concern
The bust came after an anonymous email tip-off to Greater Manchester Police about welfare worries at an Arran Street address in Moston on 19 April 2023. On arrival, officers heard heated arguments and voices including children’s.
Suspicious behaviour from Huang and his evasive attitude about his female partner and children raised red flags. When police found upstairs bedrooms locked, they forced entry and uncovered the massive drug operation, complete with a tablet press and equipment.
Detective Praises Public Tip-Off and Highlights Festival Danger
“Response officers did an outstanding job in bringing Huang to justice,” said Detective Constable Heather Gore of COM North’s Challenger organised crime team. “It looked like Huang was preparing to sell these drugs, which would likely have ended up at festivals such as Parklife, so seizing such a huge quantity was a significant result.”
The haul included 7kg of unpressed ecstasy and 10 litres of methylamphetamine, with the tablets alone valued on the street at around £385,000.
Greater Manchester’s Crime Taskforce Cracks Down
The Challenger team, Greater Manchester’s partnership tackling serious crime, played a key role in shutting down the operation. Their mission is to disrupt dangerous criminal networks, protect vulnerable people, and prevent victims from being exploited.
