Manchester Rapist Sid Ali Djelid Found Guilty of Five Attacks

Sid Ali Djelid, also known as Mourad Malki, 39, from Smedley Road, Manchester, has been convicted of five terrifying rapes across the city centre. The vile assaults, which targeted vulnerable men and women from February to July 2024, were uncovered during a gripping five-week trial at Manchester Crown Court.

Stalking Drunk Victims on Manchester’s Streets

The court revealed how Djelid, believed to be an Algerian national, preyed on intoxicated victims wandering the city. CCTV footage captured him leading a woman into a dark alley near Chinatown on February 18, 2024, before raping her, stealing her phone, and fleeing the scene. The stolen phone was later tracked to Djelid’s Cheetham Hill neighbourhood, just minutes from his home.

Attacking Visitors in Cold Blood

On June 12, Djelid struck again, this time targeting a male visitor outside a Canal Street bar. After initiating conversation, he dragged the man to a secluded spot near Richmond Street and assaulted him. Once again, he stole valuables including a phone, watch, and necklace, all traced back to Cheetham Hill. CCTV showed Djelid wearing a distinctive black puffa jacket.

From “Good Samaritan” to Predator

The final attack on July 18 showed Djelid’s chilling deception. Pretending to help a lost tourist, he led him along the canal at Jutland Street before carrying out another rape. He robbed the victim’s phone and wallet, then shoved him to the ground as he ran off.

Minutes later, CCTV caught Djelid making fraudulent purchases at a Cheetham Hill service station with one of the stolen bank cards. He had already admitted four counts of theft related to these crimes.

“Djelid preyed on the vulnerable, showing a chilling lack of conscience,” said the prosecution. “His crimes left lasting scars on innocent victims.”

Manchester Crown Court’s verdict ends Sid Ali Djelid’s sickening crime spree once and for all.
