Within hours of a brutal stabbing, cops zeroed in on suspect Bradley Peek (born 09.09.03) from Jamaica Street, E1. CCTV and facial recognition tech nailed him fast.
Bus Driver Attacked in Shocking Street Confrontation
Peek spotted a man he knew arguing with a London bus driver. He jumped in, pulled a knife, and stabbed the driver during the fight. Peek was arrested and charged with Grievous Bodily Harm with Intent.
Victim Hospitalised with Serious Injuries
The unlucky bus driver suffered a tear to the heart, seven fractured ribs, and a punctured lung after the attack on Sunday 18 June at 1:15pm on Commercial Road, E1. Thanks to a lifesaving emergency operation carried out by Royal London Hospital staff, the victim survived.
Perp Sentenced to Over Five Years Behind Bars
The 20-year-old Peek was slammed with a prison sentence of more than five years for the vicious assault.
Detective Inspector Jonathan Potter, lead investigator, said: “This was a senseless attack and a huge team effort from officers across the Met to secure justice for the victim. Facial recognition technology and CCTV footage helped us identify and locate Peek quickly. I’d also like to thank Royal London Hospital colleagues for saving the victim’s life.”
Facial Recognition Tech Aims to Cut Knife Crime
The Met is increasingly using facial recognition to target violent offenders and reduce serious crime.
Siwan Hayward, Director of Security, Policing and Enforcement at TfL, added: “This was an appalling act of violence against our colleague just doing their job. Our staff deserve to work without fear or intimidation. We don’t tolerate violence or threats towards them and will always push for the toughest sentences. We’re glad justice has been served.”
