Sussex Police Crack Down on Reckless Drink-Drivers
Sussex Police are cracking down hard this winter after arresting 233 drink-drivers in a fierce crackdown across the county. From construction workers to nurses and marine divers, offenders have been dragged before the courts as part of Operation Limit, a national campaign targeting dangerous motorists.

Notable Offenders Named and Shamed
Here are some of the mugshots from the motoring merry-go-round of disgrace:
- Aaron Botting, 35, Ash Close, Eastbourne: Drove a Land Rover the wrong way up a Brighton one-way street at night, without headlights. Tested 58mcg over the limit. Banned for one year and fined £120.
- Conrad Eckersley, 53, nurse from Brighton: Caught driving erratically after nearly hitting a central reservation. Posted 59mcg and refused a breath sample. One-year ban and £450 fine.
- Adam Gower, 36, carpenter from Chichester: Involved in a collision after two pints at the pub. Tested 47mcg. One-year ban and £384 fine.
- Lance Orton, 66, marine diver from Littlehampton: Admitted forgetting he was over limit after drinking whisky during night shifts. Tested 66mcg. Banned 20 months and slapped with £1,164 fine.
- Harry Yeo, 24, steelworker from Oving: Overtook the police at 70mph in a 50mph zone, glazed look, 87mcg breath test. Banned 17 months and fined £370.
- Ben Quigley, 23, service engineer from Storrington: Left stranded after crashing a camper van, admitting he spent all money on nightclub drinks and couldn’t pay taxi. Tested 90mcg. Banned 23 months and ordered 80 hours unpaid work.
Road Safety Warning from Sussex Police
Superintendent Rachel Glenton warned: “Our officers patrol 24/7, everywhere in Sussex. We’re out to catch offenders before they cause serious injury or death. These names are shared so others think twice before drinking and driving.”
The police’s ongoing public campaign, Drink Driving: Together We Can Stop It, urges everyone to prevent, persuade, and report drink-drivers.
