419 Drunk and Drug Drivers Nabbed in Kent Over Festive Period

Kent Police have arrested a staggering 419 drivers caught drink or drug driving – or refusing tests – between 1 December 2021 and 1 January 2022. The crackdown also saw several more motorists held on suspicion of being unfit to drive due to intoxication.

More Than a Third of Stopped Drivers Were Over the Limit

Chief Inspector Craig West, Head of Roads Policing, revealed officers stopped 1,068 vehicles during the campaign. Shocking numbers showed over a third were driven by drivers unfit to be behind the wheel.

“Drink and drug driving seriously impairs a motorist’s judgement and is known to be one of the most common causes of serious collisions,” said Chief Inspector West. “I urge people to think twice before driving under the influence of drink or drugs.”

The Heavy Price of Driving Under the Influence

West warned of the devastating impact drink and drug driving can have, not only on victims but on offenders themselves.

“If involved in a collision causing life-changing injuries or worse, the consequences are huge. On top of potential bans, offenders risk having their case details published publicly, forever searchable by employers and friends. You may lose certain job opportunities and will have to declare your criminal record,” he said. “Ask yourself – is it worth the risk?”

Kent Police Keep the Pressure On

Though this was a festive campaign, Kent Police vow to continue road safety checks year-round. The force remains committed to cracking down on dangerous driving to keep Kent’s roads safe for everyone.
