Motorcyclist Tried to Dodge the Law After Worthing Smash – But Caught Out!
Crash, Then Cover-Up
Late on February 9, a collision rocked South Farm Road in Worthing involving a Mercedes and a Honda CBR 125 motorcycle. The rider, who had a pillion passenger, shockingly fled the scene without leaving any details.
Denial Doesn’t Fly
Police tracked down registered keeper George Argent at his home. Despite sporting a visible injury and eyewitnesses placing him at the crash, Argent denied he was the rider during the incident. Witnesses insisted otherwise and ID’d him during an identity parade.
Phone Tells the Truth
After digging into Argent’s phone messages, officers uncovered admissions from the 18-year-old that he was indeed the rider. His lies quickly unraveled.
Justice Served
- Argent, from Tower Road, Lancing, was charged with perverting the course of justice, dangerous driving, driving without a valid licence, and failing to stop after an accident.
- He pleaded guilty at Lewes Crown Court on November 8.
- The court handed down a 22-week suspended prison sentence, 120 hours of unpaid work, 15 rehabilitation sessions, and a year-long driving ban.
“Argent went to great lengths to avoid being prosecuted for leaving the scene,” said PC Thomas Van Der Wee. “This case shows our commitment to cracking down on reckless motorcyclists and that those who try to deceive police will be caught and punished.”
