Nearly 40 years on, the brutal murder of 21-year-old Diane Sindall in Birkenhead is back in the spotlight. Crimestoppers has launched a fresh appeal to crack this chilling cold case.
New DNA Evidence Sparks Hope in Diane Sindall Murder
Diane was viciously attacked and killed in the early hours of August 2, 1986. Her body was discovered in a dark alley off Borough Road, showing horrific signs of sexual assault and severe injuries. A post-mortem revealed she died from a cerebral haemorrhage.
Merseyside Police reignited the investigation last year after fresh DNA evidence surfaced. Shockingly, the DNA does not match the man originally convicted of the crime. Tests have also cleared Diane’s family and fiancé, but no new lead has emerged from the national database so far.
Mass DNA Sweep Targets Suspects Nationwide
A massive voluntary DNA sweep is underway, stretching from Merseyside to Swansea, Perth, Hull, and Newcastle. So far, 461 men have been cleared, with 43 samples still under analysis as officers hunt Diane’s true killer.
£20,000 Reward for Killer’s Capture
Crimestoppers is dangling a £20,000 reward for info that helps bring Diane’s murderer to justice. Detectives are urging anyone who was near Borough Road on the night of August 1-2, 1986, or who saw a suspicious man fleeing Bidston Hill on August 3, to come forward.
