£1 Million Cash Haul as Met Cops Nab Man in London Bust
Met Police officers have landed a major blow on crime, seizing nearly £1 million in cash and arresting a man in north London. The cash haul came courtesy of the Met’s Operation Venice Scorpion and Venice Investigation Team (VIT).
Massive Cash Find in Haringey Home
Detective Chief Inspector Shaun White, who heads Operation Venice, revealed the astonishing cash seizure on Tuesday, 26 May. During a traffic stop in a Colney Hatch Lane car park, Scorpion officers caught a 31-year-old man with £12,000 in cash he couldn’t explain.
Following his arrest under the Proceeds of Crime Act, VIT officers searched his Haringey home. There, they uncovered what’s believed to be nearly £1 million stashed in shoe boxes and bags, along with several passports.
Targeting Organised Crime with Relentless Force
“There is no justifiable reason for this much cash not being in a bank account, unless it comes from criminal activity,” said DCI White. “This is a fantastic seizure, thanks to our Scorpion drivers who use motorbikes and cars to catch criminals and the Venice team who secure arrests and push for convictions.”
The 31-year-old suspect remains in police custody as investigations continue.
“Operation Venice officers work round the clock with support from across the Met to tackle serious and organised crime. We’ll keep hunting down those who think they can break the law in London,” DCI White added.
This crackdown sends a clear message: the Met means business when it comes to stamping out crime and following the money.
