Fatal Alfa Romeo Crash Kills Two, Injures Three in Shocking Family Hit

Tragedy Strikes on Leopold Street

Just after 9.30pm on Wednesday, August 10, 2022, horror unfolded outside a multi-storey car park on Leopold Street. A black Alfa Romeo ploughed into five pedestrians—all from the same family.

Tragically, an elderly man in his 80s and a woman in her 30s died shortly after the crash. A young girl of primary school age and a man in his 40s were rushed to a London hospital with serious injuries. Another primary school-aged boy suffered minor injuries.

Police Hunt Key Witness: Mystery Motorcyclist

Officers from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) are desperate to speak to witnesses. Of special interest is a motorcyclist seen near the scene around the time of the crash.

The biker wore a black helmet and was riding a cruiser-style bike with a distinctive full-length chrome exhaust. Witnesses say the rider turned from Harbour Parade into Leopold Street then carried on towards Queen Street.

Police urge anyone in the area around 8.30pm with dashcam footage or CCTV to get in touch.

Man Charged Over Deadly Crash, Others on Bail

Nitesh Bissendary, 30, from Manston, faces a raft of charges including two counts of causing death by dangerous driving, two counts of causing serious injury, assault causing actual bodily harm, failing to provide a sample, failing to stop, and drunk driving.

Meanwhile, a 58-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and drug offences remain on bail until September 8 pending further investigations.
