Early Morning Burglars Caught After Bank Card Scam

A woman living on Banning Street woke to a terrifying sight at 3 a.m. on Monday, August 22, 2022 — her front door wide open. After a quick scan, she shut it and tried to get some more sleep.

Cards Used in Local Shops—Victim Realises Purse Stolen

Just hours later at 5.36 a.m., alarms rang when she got a text: one of her bank cards had been used in a nearby store. Panic set in when she noticed her purse was missing. Then, only minutes later, a second card was used in another local shop.

Kent Police Nab Two Suspects

At 5.43 a.m., Kent Police were alerted to the burglary and swung into action. They arrested two suspects the same morning.

Rebecca Small, 34, and Jack Elliott, 32, from Wainscott’s Gill Avenue, showed up at Medway Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 23. Each faces one count of burglary and two counts of fraud.

Both were released on bail with conditions. They must return to court on Wednesday, October 5.
