Hull Man Jailed Over Fake Bomb Scare That Terrified Neighbours
Darrel Greig, 45, from Navenby Grove, Hull, has been locked up for 16 months after causing panic with a bogus bomb in May.
Fake Bomb Sparks Full-Scale Emergency
On May 14, police raced to a north Hull property after reports of a suspicious device outside the house. Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) teams scrambled to investigate, forcing a 400-metre cordon and an evacuation of nearby residents. Homes were emptied as safety measures kicked in.
Homemade Hoax Weapon
Greig confessed to assembling the fake bomb from everyday items, including a petrol canister and a mobile phone, intending to spread fear and distress.
Justice Served
Greig pled guilty and received his sentence at Hull Crown Court on Tuesday, June 21. PC Nicola Knight said, “I’m pleased that he is now behind bars receiving punishment for his actions, which undoubtedly caused his victim and the local community an unforgivable amount of stress and fear.”
She added, “No one should feel unsafe in their own home or community. I hope the outcome at court provides some comfort to his victim in knowing he is now in prison, and that Darrel has time to reflect on his actions.”
