Brutal Daylight Murder of Mum in City Centre Stuns Bradford
A man from Oldham has been found guilty of murdering his estranged wife in a savage daylight knife attack as she pushed their baby in a pram through Bradford city centre last April.
Habibur Masum, 26, from Leamington Avenue, Burnley, was convicted of murder, assault by beating, making threats to kill, and stalking after a tense trial.
The chilling attack happened on Saturday 6 April 2024, just after 3:20pm on Westgate, Bradford. Kulsuma Akter, 27, was stabbed multiple times, including a fatal wound to the neck, right in front of horrified bystanders and her baby son.
Attack Caught on CCTV
West Yorkshire Police confirmed that Masum was caught red-handed on CCTV carrying out the vicious stabbing. He fled the scene on foot, sparking a nationwide manhunt.
Three days later, in the early hours of Tuesday 9 April, armed officers arrested Masum in Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire.
He was swiftly brought back to West Yorkshire and charged with multiple offences related to the murder.
Kulsuma’s Tragic Death
Emergency services rushed to the scene where members of the public bravely attempted to save Kulsuma before paramedics arrived. Despite their desperate efforts, she later died in hospital from her savage injuries.
A post-mortem revealed she suffered multiple stab wounds inflicted by a kitchen knife, including fatal injuries to her neck.
West Yorkshire Police’s Homicide and Major Enquiry Team led the investigation into the shocking killing.
Police Praise Community Courage
“This was a horrific and senseless attack. The efforts to help Kulsuma are a testament to the strength of our communities,” said a police spokesperson.
Sentencing Set for July
Masum remains in custody ahead of his sentencing hearing, set for 22 July 2025. He faces a likely life sentence for the brutal murder of his estranged wife.
