Leicester Man Convicted of Murder After Stabbing Ex-Partner to Death
A man who fatally stabbed his ex-partner in Leicester has been found guilty of murder. Bhavini Pravin died on Moore Road this March after the horrific attack. The suspect, Jigukumar Sorthi, even stopped police in the street and confessed to the crime.
Family Mourns ‘Laxmi’ Bhavini, 21
Bhavini’s father, Pravin Babu, spoke out after the conviction. “Our daughter was only 21 when she was brutally taken from us,” he said.
“She was a good daughter, attending college and working alongside me to support our family – keeping food on the table and a roof over our heads.
“When Bhavini was born, it felt like all our prayers were answered. She was the ‘Laxmi’ – the Goddess of our family.
“She always gave us joy and purpose. She inspired us to better ourselves and build a future.”
Heartbreaking Tribute to a Loving Sister and Daughter
Bhavini was a doting sister to her younger brothers, Krutesh and Yagnesh. Her brother Yagnesh affectionately called her ‘Tahndi’ – meaning calm.
The family moved to England to give their children a better life. Pravin shared how he and Bhavini worked on the same production line for four years, laughing and joking as she jogged while he cycled nearby.
“She was inseparable from my wife – people said they looked like sisters,” he recalled. “They shared clothes, got ready together, and were best friends.”
Bhavini was a devout Hindu, full of love and kindness, always the life and soul of Hindu festivals.
Family’s Shattered Lives and Lasting Pain
The family hoped Bhavini would become a nurse, marry, have a family and live happily ever after. They welcomed Jigu, her fiancé, into their home – supporting and accepting him.
“How did he repay our kindness? By killing our beloved Bhavini,” said Pravin.
“Our faith tells us we each serve a purpose on this earth. Bhavini surely served hers. She brought us so much happiness in her short life.
“We are shattered beyond repair. Only faith keeps us going.”
Pravin ended with heart-wrenching words: “My sons will never forget the horror of that day. I will always regret not being there to stop it. And my wife will never forget Bhavini’s last word – ‘Mummy’.”
Jigukumar Sorthi faces sentencing next week as the family continues to grieve a future stolen too soon.
