Leicester Man, 27, Faces Terror Charges at Westminster Court
27-Year-Old Hisham Chaudhary Arrested
A 27-year-old man from Great Glen, Leicester, appeared today (Thursday, October 29) at Westminster Magistrates Court. Hisham Chaudhary, born February 4, 1993, of Chestnut Drive, faces seven offences under the Terrorism Act.
Chaudhary was arrested on the morning of Thursday, October 22, 2020. The arrest followed a major probe led by Counter Terrorism Policing North East, with support from Counter Terrorism Policing East Midlands and Leicestershire Police.
Serious Terror Offences Laid
Chaudhary is charged with:
- Four counts of disseminating terrorist publications (Terrorism Act 2006, section 2(1))
- One count of membership of a proscribed organisation (Terrorism Act 2000, section 11(1))
- Two counts of entering a funding arrangement linked to terrorism (Terrorism Act 2000, section 17)
Remanded In Custody Ahead of Crown Court Appearance
He has been remanded in custody and will next appear at the Central Criminal Court on November 6.
Woman Also Arrested But Released
A 29-year-old woman from Leicester was also arrested in connection with the investigation. However, she has since been released without charge.
