These shocking photos reveal the horrific injuries suffered by Hampshire Police officer PC Danielle Ruzewicz after being savagely bitten by a man she was trying to help. The attack, which has left Danielle scarred for life, is described by Hampshire Police Federation Chairman John Apter as the worst biting incident he has ever seen on a police officer.

Attacker Jailed for Brutal Assault

Brett Ferre, of Windmill Grove, was handed a two-year-and-four-month prison sentence today for the vicious assault on PC Ruzewicz. He had earlier admitted unlawful wounding during his trial at Portsmouth Crown Court.

Police Federation Boss Slams “Horrific” Attack

John Apter defended releasing the gruesome images, saying, “I make no apology for showing the horrible injuries caused to our colleague Danielle. It’s vital the public see the brutal reality police officers face and the injuries they sustain.”

He added, “We must protect the protectors. There has to be a strong deterrent for anyone who attacks an officer.”

Describing the bite wound, Apter said, “It’s the worst bite injury I’ve ever seen inflicted on a police officer. Danielle is scarred for life just for doing her job.”

Long-Term Impact on Officer

Danielle had to endure a six-month wait to confirm she was free of infectious diseases after the attack. Apter criticised the courts, stating, “Police officers deserve better protection and support. While the sentence fits sentencing guidelines, it fails to support the victim.”

He urged the Government: “The rules must change to protect those who protect us. Perverse sentences for those who assault emergency workers cannot continue.”

Heroic Officer Relives Terrifying Moment

On September 16 last year, PC Ruzewicz, 36, and colleague PC Nicki Wisdom responded to a call at Portchester seafront where they found Ferre with a head injury.

Danielle recalled: “As I tried to restrain him and grabbed his left arm, he trapped my hand under his head, turned, and bit down hard on my arm. Blood poured everywhere.”

She continued, “Only at the hospital, when the bandage was removed, did I realise the full extent — a 6x3cm tear on my arm.”

Reflecting on the ordeal, Danielle admitted, “These things have quite an impact. My thoughts were shaken, and I started questioning if this was the job I really wanted, given the risks.”
