Man Jailed for Smuggling Nearly £500k in Air Freshener Truck

A Polish man has been sentenced to 20 months behind bars for trying to sneak almost half a million pounds out of the UK hidden inside a truckload of air fresheners.

Border Force Uncovers £488,345 in Secret Compartments

Krzysztof Hubert Turadek, 34, was caught by Border Force officers at Dover on September 19, 2020. Driving an HGV tractor and trailer, Turadek was stopped during outbound freight checks. Though the truck carried a legitimate load of 33 pallets of aerosol air fresheners, a detailed search revealed 49 sealed packages stashed in a hidden floor hatch called a coil well.

The packages contained a whopping £488,345 in cash.

National Crime Agency Investigation Leads to Conviction

Turadek pled guilty to money laundering on October 27 at Canterbury Crown Court. Yesterday, on November 3, he was sentenced at 1 Crown Court following an investigation by the National Crime Agency.

He had collected the air freshener consignment in Derby, intending to deliver both the goods and the secret cash to Poland.
