Swindon Shoplifter Slapped with Suspended Sentence After Nearly 20 Thefts
A notorious shoplifter from Swindon has narrowly dodged jail after admitting to a spree of 19 thefts. Steven Lloyd, 48, who has no fixed address, was sentenced at Swindon Magistrates’ Court on August 13.
Stealing Pet Food, Bathroom Products and Booze
Between February and July 2025, Lloyd targeted shops across North Swindon, swiping everything from pet food and bathroom essentials to alcohol. His repeated thefts left a mark on local businesses struggling to keep losses down.
Suspended Jail Time and Tough Rehab Orders
Magistrates handed Lloyd 36 weeks in prison — but it was suspended for 18 months. He must also complete a 26-day accredited programme and up to 10 days of rehabilitation activities as part of his sentence.
Police Crackdown on Shoplifting
PC Matthew Richter from Wiltshire Police warned: “Lloyd is a prolific offender with numerous theft convictions. Criminals like Lloyd can have a devastating impact on businesses and the wider community, which is why swift and effective action is essential. Shoplifting is a priority for Swindon’s neighbourhood teams, and we continue to urge everyone to report any incidents they witness so that action like this can be taken.”
