Brutal Home Invasion Rapist Caught After Terrifying Attack in Brent
A terrifying ordeal unfolded in Brent when Andrei Makara, 40, of no fixed address, broke into a house-share and assaulted the female occupant. Makara pleaded guilty at Harrow Crown Court on 30 August to two counts of rape, one count of assault by penetration, and one count of robbery.
Shocking Morning Attack
At 10:40am on 24 July, the 31-year-old victim was in the bathroom when she heard a loud bang downstairs. Rushing to investigate, she found Makara trying to break in. Despite locking the front door, Makara forced it open with his shoulder.
In a desperate bid to protect herself, the victim bandaged Makara’s injured hand and even offered her bank card as a ransom for her safety. But the attacker’s aggression escalated.
Threats, Rape, and Theft
Makara threatened the victim with a pair of scissors before raping her. After the attack, he demanded her bank card and PIN, threatening to kill her if she entered the wrong number. He then stole a bicycle belonging to the victim’s husband and fled.
The victim reported the robbery to police the same day and revealed the sexual assault two days later, prompting an immediate investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Child Abuse and Sexual Offences Command (CASO).
Justice on the Horizon
“I would like to commend the victim for her bravery and having the courage to report the incident to the police. Her evidence was vital in ensuring a dangerous individual has been brought to justice. Understandably, she has been left deeply traumatised, even having to move home within days. I hope today’s conviction will give her some measure of comfort and closure.” – Detective Constable Alan Wong, CASO
Makara will be sentenced at Harrow Crown Court on Wednesday, 26 September. The victim’s courage has helped put this dangerous man behind bars.
