Scissors Attack Shocker: Fugitive Caught After Brutal Assault
McLean, 39, a man with no fixed address, fled the scene after a savage stabbing on February 27 in Rishi News, South Street. He was finally nabbed in Liverpool on April 29.
Brutal Daytime Assault Caught on CCTV
Security footage shows McLean chasing a 29-year-old local man into a shop around midday before launching a vicious attack. Armed with scissors, he stabbed the victim multiple times in a sustained assault.
The victim suffered serious injuries and was rushed to hospital.
Manhunt & £3,000 Reward Fuel Arrest
Sussex Police launched a nationwide hunt for McLean, with Crimestoppers offering £3,000 for information leading to his capture.
With help from Merseyside Police, McLean was arrested and charged with grievous bodily harm with intent and carrying an offensive weapon in public. He was remanded in custody.
Guilty Plea & Upcoming Sentencing
At Lewes Crown Court on May 26, McLean admitted guilt to both charges. His sentencing is set for July 15, court location still to be decided.
“This was a brazen, violent attack carried out in the middle of the day with complete disregard for the general public,” said Detective Inspector Neil Phillips. “Not only did McLean leave his victim with horrific injuries, but he fled hundreds of miles to avoid facing justice.”
Phillips praised the police teams: “Thanks to the tenacity of our officers and our Merseyside partners, we brought him into custody, where overwhelming evidence forced a guilty plea.”
