Welsh Scrap Dealer Jailed for Sick Sexual Abuse of Teen Girl

A 58-year-old Welsh scrap metal dealer has been locked up for sexually abusing a teenage girl in Rustington.

Mark Rumbol’s Shocking Crimes

Mark Rumbol, from Hewelsfield, Wales, was found guilty of repeatedly assaulting a girl under 15 between 2020 and 2021. The victim bravely reported the abuse in March 2021, leading to Rumbol’s arrest and specialist police support for the girl.

Conviction and Sentence

Rumbol faced multiple charges, including rape, sexual assault, assault by penetration, and inciting a girl under 15 to engage in sexual activity without penetration. On 18 December at Lewes Crown Court, he was cleared of rape but convicted of the other offences.

On 26 January, he was sentenced to 11 years behind bars. He must also register as a sex offender for life and abide by a restraining order and an indefinite Sexual Harm Prevention Order, curbing any chance of further offences.

Police Praise Victim’s Bravery

Detective Constable Julie Leseure said: “Mark Rumbol subjected his victim to appalling crimes for his own gratification, with no regard for the devastating harm they caused.”

“She has shown incredible courage and determination to report the abuse and support this investigation through to its conclusion.”

“Thanks to her bravery, Rumbol is now behind bars where he can cause no further harm.”
