Portsmouth Stalker Terry Waymark Jailed for Four Years After Campaign of Harassment
A young chip shop worker showed guts as she took her stalker to court after enduring a terrifying three-week harassment ordeal.
Stalker Lurks in Chip Shop
In early October 2017, the victim was served by 36-year-old Terry Waymark at a Portsmouth chip shop. The court heard Waymark falsely claimed to be a police officer and spent 20 minutes leering and talking to her. It was just the start of a chilling campaign.
Disturbing Messages and Midnight Calls
Two weeks later, Waymark tracked down the victim’s contact details from a business card and bombarded her with creepy texts and emails. He peppered her with personal questions about her love life before launching late-night phone calls, demanding to meet and threatening to visit her workplace.
Brave Victim Calls in Police
On October 26, the scared but defiant woman phoned police. PC Jon Simpson praised her courage. He said, “The victim was left terrified by these sudden and inappropriate messages. She even changed her shifts out of fear.” He added, “Her bravery helped us arrest Waymark just one day after the report. Her actions will keep others safe.”
Four Years Behind Bars
Waymark was convicted at Portsmouth Crown Court on March 23 of stalking causing serious alarm and distress, under the Protection from Harassment Act 1997. Judge Mousley QC condemned Waymark for seeking “personal gain” and taking “pleasure” in forcing the victim to give evidence.
Waymark was jailed for four years and slapped with an indefinite restraining order. Detective Chief Inspector Suzette Allcorn warned, “Stalking is a crime of persistence, fixation and obsession. It devastates victims and we take it very seriously.” She assured the public that Hampshire police will keep working through their Stalking Clinic to protect victims and stop offenders.
