Shots Fired at Sheffield Police in Late-Night Attack
Chaos erupted in Sheffield after unarmed officers responding to a woman’s safety concern came under fire just after midnight on January 4. The officers were on an unrelated call in Longley Hall Grove when a suspected air weapon was fired at them.
No Injuries but Tensions High
Thankfully, no one was hurt as officers quickly took cover. Armed response teams raced to the scene, launching a hunt for the shooters involved in this shocking attack.
Man Arrested and Released on Bail
A 25-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear. He has since been released on police bail pending further investigation.
Police Call for Public Help
Detective Chief Inspector Mark Oughton slammed the attack, saying, “Being targeted in this manner is simply not part of the job of a police officer – it is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated.”
Door-to-door enquiries are underway, with extra patrols reassuring residents nearby. DCI Oughton urged the public to come forward with any information: “It’s so important you tell us anything you know or saw so that we can build up a full picture of what happened and bring those who carry guns to justice.”
