London Police Crack Down on Protest Chaos
Commander Karen Findlay, in charge of London policing this week, slammed violent protest breakaways and vowed tough action.
29 Arrested, Hate Crime Focus
“Most protesters were peaceful, but pockets of chaos were totally unacceptable,” Findlay said. Police acted fast, arresting 29 individuals on Saturday. Six have already been charged and will appear in court. Four youths were handed over to Youth Offending Teams.
Another arrest came this morning after a man allegedly hurled anti-Semitic abuse in Parliament Square. “We’re reviewing footage and will arrest anyone spreading hate,” Findlay added.
Over 1,300 Officers on Duty Amid Rising Violence
More than 1,300 officers patrolled London on Saturday, stepping in to prevent disruption. Violence against police surged, with four officers hurt after fireworks were fired at them. Despite injuries, the officers stood firm.
No Tolerance for Hate and Extremism
The Met is cracking down on inflammatory placards that incite racial hatred or back banned groups. “Such material will be assessed by our Counter Terrorism Command,” Findlay warned.
Intelligence also revealed a pamphlet allegedly supporting extremist views was being sold at the protest. That, too, is under investigation.
Armistice Day Security Tightened
Police have been in talks with pro-Palestine march organisers and will continue working with them ahead of Armistice Day. “Thousands of officers will be deployed to stop anyone trying to ruin this national moment,” Findlay promised.
