Man Charged After Brutal Early Morning Attack in Maidstone
A violent assault in Maidstone town centre has landed a suspect in court. The attack happened at around 3.40am on Sunday, 28 July 2024.
Victim Attacked Walking Down Gabriel’s Hill
The victim, a man in his 20s, was strolling down Gabriel’s Hill towards Lower Stone Street with a friend when an unknown man approached him. The attacker spoke briefly before suddenly striking the victim on the side of the head.
Realising he was badly hurt with two deep cuts to his neck, the victim fled the scene and later sought hospital treatment.
Suspect Arrested After Further Assaults on Police
Police arrested a man on Week Street about an hour after the attack. While in custody, the suspect allegedly assaulted two officers and spat inside a police cell van.
The accused is Stephen Fraser, 40, of Beckenham Road, Beckenham, Greater London. He faces charges of grievous bodily harm with intent, assault on emergency workers, and criminal damage.
Next Hearing Scheduled at Maidstone Crown Court
Fraser appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 29 July, and has been remanded in custody. His next court date is set for 27 August at Maidstone Crown Court.
