Teen Stabbed to Death in Chelmsford Linked to Bitcoin Debt
A 16-year-old boy’s tragic murder in Chelmsford has been linked to a mounting Bitcoin debt, court heard yesterday. Andy Wood was fatally stabbed near Waterson Vale on February 12 last year after struggling with £800 in cryptocurrency debts.
Drug Deal Gone Wrong
Andy, allegedly involved in drug dealing, owed around £800 in Bitcoin but had only paid half. Witnesses told Chelmsford Crown Court that financial worries pushed Andy into illegal activity. One witness warned him against drug dealing but said Andy’s debts were a driving force.
Defence lawyer David Etherington for accused killer Elijah Clark dismissed the witness’s claim about the Bitcoin debt as speculation.
Knife Attack Sparks Fatal Fight
The fatal encounter began when Andy met Clark, 19, for a cannabis deal. Clark, wearing a balaclava and wielding a knife, demanded Andy hand over all his drugs. When Andy refused, a violent standoff broke out, leaving him with fatal stab wounds.
Andy tried to run but collapsed and died at the scene, marking a harrowing end to a young life.
Killer Charged as Trial Continues
Clark now faces charges of murder, manslaughter, possession of a bladed weapon, and actual bodily harm. The court continues to piece together the events leading to Andy’s death.
This heartbreaking case sheds light on the perilous mix of youth crime and cryptocurrency debts—an explosive combination with deadly consequences.
